Science, On Tourne! 2016

April 1st, 29th, 30th, 2016

This year’s edition of Science, On Tourne! challenged students to “build a vehicle that will perform a round trip using wind energy to travel in one direction and potential gravitational energy in the other direction”. This was an especially difficult challenge. In our Local Dawson competition, prizes were given for the competition, oral/written communication, ingenuity, and recycling ($120 each).

The event this year had a slight shift in participation. Mech. Tech. only had a couple of teams competing, whereas Science Program had the majority of the teams. The Engineering Physics course made participation in this event park of the course curriculum (Helene Nadeau & JF Briere), so the science students really got some hands on experience building and executing.

The winners for our local competition were:

  1. SoT Challenge: Mitchell Keeley, George Vlad Calapod, Chaitanya Varier (Science)
  2. SoT Communication: Jonathan Borestsky, Morgan Gold, Emil Levkovsky (Science)
  3. SoT Ingenuity: Michael O’Meara (Science)
  4. SoT Ecoresponsability: Alex Boivin, David Vinitski (Mech Tech)

Our Dawson team placed 6th overall out of 32 CEGEPs at the the Provincial Finals held at Cégep de Trois-Rivières on April 30. Our participating members should be proud.
