Visit at the Musee des Hospitalieres (Hotel-Dieu)

Student’s taking part in the Outcasts and Minorities in Québec History course have the opportunity to visit The Musée des Hospitallers of the Hôtel-Dieu de Montréal at the end of October. The focus in this course is on groups of women who renounced motherhood and decided take the veil. During this visit, the students will be introduced to the cloistered community of religious women who founded the Hotel-Dieu, Montreal’s very first hospital.This visit will foster a reflection on the Hospitallers as the “front line health workers” of major epidemics that struck Montreal in the past centuries (smallpox,cholera,typhus,Spanish flu to name only these.
