ACADEMIC STANDING AND ADVANCEMENT POLICY

To be in good standing and to register unconditionally, students must meet the requirements of the College Academic Standing and Advancement Policy as well as the program requirements.

PROGRAM POLICY

Academic Standing

Specific Education discipline numbers in the Accounting and Management Technology and Marketing and Management Technology Programs are: (410) Business Administration, (420) Computer Science and (383) Economics.

The following circumstances will result in an expulsion from the program:

  • Failing the same Specific Education course three times.
  • Failure to complete the program within 5 years.

Students who do not satisfy the criteria of this Academic Standing Policy will be expelled from the Program and the College. The expelled student has the right to appeal the expulsion to the College Academic Standing Appeals Committee.

Advancement

  • In order to advance to Term 3 of the program, students must have passed at least four (4) of the required 14 General Education courses.
  • In order to advance to Term 5 of the program, students must have passed at least nine (9) of the required 14 General Education courses.

Students in program who are prevented from advancing in their Specific Education courses may continue taking General Education courses and must either:

  1. Submit an “Intent to Continue in Current Program” form to the Registrar’s Office by March 1 or November 1, as appropriate, in order to resume taking Specific Education courses in the following semester.
    OR
  2. Submit an online Program Transfer request by March 1 or November 1, as appropriate, in order to enroll in a different program.

Students not taking any courses in a semester must reapply to the College by the application deadline in order to be part of a program of study.

Exceptional Circumstances

In extenuating circumstances, the Program Coordinator may recommend an exception to the Program Academic Standing and Advancement Policy to the Program Dean for approval. This recommendation must be accompanied by a revised Graduation Requirement Plan.

Professional Conduct

Students are expected to exhibit appropriate behaviour referred to as “professional conduct”. Students must display consistent courtesy, teamwork and cooperative behaviour toward faculty, staff and fellow students. Professional conduct must be displayed in the classroom and all activities associated with the Program, including internship, alternance travail-étude program, and Business Administration department extracurricular activities. Students who exhibit inappropriate behaviour may be expelled from the Program and the College. Expelling students from the Program on the basis of professional conduct will be applied in accordance with the College’s Institutional Student Evaluation Policy (ISEP).

Some examples of inappropriate behaviour are:

  • Malicious use of equipment including BASA and Computer Science Computer room, College computer labs and other resources;
  • Display of behaviour detrimental to the learning or work environment (e.g. rudeness, interference with other students’ learning, etc.);
  • Unethical practices, including falsification of data, misappropriation of others’ work, unauthorized copying and distribution of software, destruction of other students’ work; violating confidentiality;
  • Refusal to follow instructions given by faculty, staff, or internship host supervisors including but not limited to instructions regarding safe use of equipment, and health and safety related issues;
  • Disregard for public and private property.

Students expelled on the basis of inappropriate professional conduct may appeal the expulsion to the Academic Dean.
