Who we are

What is Sustainable Dawson?

Sustainable Dawson is the college’s hub for building, measuring and promoting a holistic culture shift on campus around all things sustainable. Sustainable Dawson is a branch of the institution and values input and engagement from students, faculty and administration in the hopes of fostering a cohesive and adaptable sustainability management approach that pushes the college’s sustainability policy and strategic plan forward.

Defining Sustainability at Dawson

Sustainability is a broad concept and umbrellas many topics ranging from environmental best practices, social justice and inclusion and smart economic choices.

Whether an agreed upon general definition (Bruntland Comission, 1987) or a holistic approach to living (as demonstrated by many indigenous cultures around the globe), we think that having a working definition of sustainability through the perspective of Dawson’s setting will help us move forward.

Urban Nature Interpretation

Youth from local organizations and day camps are invited to Dawson to experience Nature Canada’s Naturehood program. Youth and young adults discover the wonders of Nature in their own backyard and become citizen scientists. Dawson’s biodiversity zones and gardens become the perfect outdoor classroom.

Wildlife Projects

Even though our campus is small, we have lots of wildlife calling our grounds home. Honey bees Monarch Butterfly Tagging Urban Birds
