Lunch and Learn: Covid-19 Impacts on the Adaptation of College Students with Disabilities – March 3

On March 13, 2020, the Government of Quebec declared a health emergency which forced college students to not attend public places, avoid any gathering, respect social distancing measures, and interrupt their college studies for a period of 15 days. After these two weeks of interruption, most of these students continued their studies online in a context where teaching and services were given in an emergency mode. This return to college was then concomitant with the arrival of the first wave of Covid-19. It reached a first peak in Quebec on April 30, 2020, with just over 1,000 cases and 150 deaths daily. Several studies have documented the stress experienced by college students during this first wave. Although these studies suggest an exacerbation of symptoms reported by more vulnerable students, this conclusion is based primarily on cross-sectional data and an often-fragmented examination of vulnerability factors.

During this event, we will present findings from the ESH-Transition project, which describes the adjustment trajectories of college students during the Covid-19 pandemic and the associations between these trajectories and vulnerability factors measures upstream of the pandemic (e.g., presence and type of disability, low grades in high school, low parental income, and education).
